What Affects Your Solar Battery Quote
Battery size
A bigger battery costs more. Installers size it from your night-time power use and solar size.
Brand and type
Brands differ in warranty, backup ability and how well they work with your solar.
Inverter
Some homes need a hybrid inverter. Others can add an AC-coupled battery to the existing inverter.
Backup power
Keeping the lights on in a blackout needs extra wiring, and whole-home backup costs more than a few circuits.
Your installation
Switchboard condition, 3-phase power, distance from the switchboard and where the battery goes.
Rebates and virtual power plants.
The federal rebate, any state support and VPP offers all change the final price.
Your Battery Rebate Is Already Taken Off
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries program cuts the upfront price of a home battery. Every installer we match you with includes it in your quote, so you see the price you actually pay.
The rebate gets smaller every 6 months, so the sooner you compare quotes, the more of it you keep. Since 1 May 2026 it is also tiered by battery size, with full value on the first 14kWh.
Who qualifies: homeowners and small businesses, one battery per property. The battery must be new, Clean Energy Council approved and connected to solar (new or existing), and an accredited installer must fit it.
Some states add their own support. Read our NSW, WA and ACT rebate guides. We match homeowners in every state and territory.

Which Batteries Can You Get Quotes For?
People often ask for the best solar battery in Australia. There is no single best one. It depends on your solar size, inverter, backup needs and budget. Installers in our network quote popular brands including Tesla Powerwall, Sungrow, BYD, Enphase, Sigenergy and AlphaESS.
Read our independent battery reviews first, then compare quotes for the ones that suit your home.
Which Installers Will Quote You?
We match you with local installers who are licensed and checked by our team. For the federal rebate, the installer must be accredited, and we give preference to installers who meet their state’s rebate rules. Browse our installer profiles before you decide.

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries program gives an upfront discount through small-scale technology certificates (STCs). From 1 May 2026 the discount is full for the first 14kWh of battery, lower from 14 to 28kWh, and lower again above that. Some states add their own incentives
No, you can install a battery without solar, but it works best with panels. Solar charges the battery during the day so you can use that power at night instead of buying from the grid. If you do not have solar yet, ask installers to quote a solar and battery package together.
Installing a home battery usually takes 1 to 2 days, and longer for larger systems. Allow extra time before that for choosing a quote, a site inspection and approvals, and after it for grid connection. Your installer will give you a timeline with your quote.
There is no single best battery. The right choice depends on your solar system, how much power you use, whether you want blackout backup, and your budget. Read our battery brand reviews to compare popular brands such as Tesla, Sungrow, BYD and Enphase, then ask installers to quote the ones that suit you.
